چکیده

This paper proposes a methodology that replaces the usual ad hoc approach to metamodeling. This methodology considers validation of a metamodel with respect to both the underlying simulation model and the problem entity. It distinguishes between ®tting and validating a metamodel, and covers four types of goal: (i) understanding, (ii) prediction, (iii) optimization, and (iv) veri®cation and validation. The methodology consists of a metamodeling process with 10 steps. This process includes classic design of experiments (DOE) and measuring ®t through standard measures such as R-square and cross-validation statistics. The paper extends this DOE to stagewise DOE, and discusses several validation criteria, measures, and estimators. The methodology covers metamodels in general (including neural networks); it also gives a speci®c procedure for developing linear regression (including polynomial) metamodels for random simulation. A methodology for fitting and validating metamodels in simulation

This expository paper discusses the relationships among metamodels, simulation models, and problem entities. A metamodel or response surface is an approximation of the input/output function implied by the underlying simulation model. There are several types of metamodel: linear regression, splines, neural networks, etc. This paper distinguishes between fitting and validating a metamodel. Metamo...

Improving for Drum_Buffer_Rope material flow management with attention to second bottlenecks and free goods in a job shop environment

Drum–Buffer–Rope is a theory of constraints production planning methodology that operates by developing a schedule for the system’s first bottleneck. The first bottleneck is the bottleneck with the highest utilization. In the theory of constraints, any job that is not processed at the first bottleneck is referred to as a free good. Free goods do not use capacity at the first bottleneck, so very...
